Join Brier Creek Commons and the North Carolina Association of Educators as we celebrate Read Across America with an action packed event for children and their families! The event will be held in the Barnes & Noble Parking Area. The event will take place on Saturday March 3rd . (See event options below)
Read Across America Day – that wonderful day when readers young and old celebrate the joy of reading and the birthday of Dr. Seuss, an American author best known for bringing some of the most beloved characters to life in his children’s books.
Our event will start with the Green Eggs and Ham breakfast sponsored by RISE. The cost for each breakfast is $6 payable thru this eventbrite site and a portion of the proceeds goes to the N.C. Children’s Foundation. Additional Eventbrite fees are not included in an effort to donate as much funding as possible to the NC Children’s Foundation and the important work they do in our state.
One out of every four children in North Carolina lives in poverty. All across North Carolina, children struggle in school because they lack basic needs that assist them in being successful in school. Many parents do not have the means to purchase such things as eyeglasses, shoes that fit, clothing, school supplies, school fees and much more.
The N.C. Foundation for Public School Children’s mission is to make sure every student in K-12 has what he or she needs to succeed in school. We accomplish this by:
- Helping provide basic necessities for public school children;
- Improving parents’ skills in order for children to be successful;
- Expanding professional development opportunities for educators;
- “Growing Our Own” future public school teachers through the N.C. Teacher Cadet Program
Our event will host an array of activities for children – everything from special displays, to book readings by some very special guests, to a live appearance by that mischievous feline the Cat in the Hat! We know the weather in March can be tricky so this year we came up with a fabulous Seussical plan! The event will take place in two large tents with plenty of tables and chairs for breakfast to start the fun. The breakfast will take place from 9-10 a.m. (This will be in TENT ONE and tickets are needed and only available thru this site) and then event activities begin in TENT TWO from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. There is no charge to participate in the event in TENT TWO at 10 a.m.but who would want to miss a Green Eggs and Ham breakfast by RISE? Certainly not the Cat in the Hat who will also be on hand visiting with the children during the breakfast event.
Please join us in honoring the art of reading and supporting such an important organization supporting children in North Carolina. Thank you to our partners: American Asset Corporation, The North Carolina Association of Educators, and RISE at Brier Creek Commons.
