As summer comes to an end and back to school season begins, it can be hard for both parents and kids to get back into school year routine. The trick is to plan ahead! Here are some helpful tips for you to ease kids back into school life.

PREPARE MENTALLY

  • Start your back to school sleep schedule a couple weeks prior to the first day of school
  • Encourage your kids to read at least one more book before the school year begins
  • Talk openly about your kids feelings about returning to school

CREATE A CALENDAR SYSTEM

  • Have a family calendar - where all school, activities and important items are easily viewed for everyone
  • Help your kids put together a schedule with their school work and activities
  • Set up weekly meetings to review your kids activities for the week ahead
  • Schedule blocks of time to check in with your kids to see how things are going

PLAN A MORNING ROUTINE

  • Create a morning routine and print it out
  • Make sure your kids have an alarm clock that will effectively wake them up
  • Pre-pack lunch boxes the night before
  • Plan to be ready 10 minutes before you actually have to be

SET GOALS FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR

  • Set realistic goals for the new school year with your kids
  • Set weekly goals and to-do lists for your helps to have them complete
  • Create a reward system for when kids meet their goals and complete their tasks

SHOP FOR SCHOOL SUPPLIES

  • Include your kids to get them excited about the new school year
  • Inventory last year's school supplies
  • Let your kids pick our their clothes and shoes
  • Create a dedicated and organized space at your home for your kids school supplies
